ID-10039141If you hate grocery shopping, you’re not alone. The stores are crowded, the lines are long, and most certainly there is something else you’d rather be doing. And yet, if you’re trying to lose weight and improve your health, grocery shopping is one of the best things you can do to help yourself.

POWERFUL WEIGHT LOSS TIP: go grocery shopping

Here are a few useful tips to get you in-and-out of the grocery store with a shopping cart full of healthy weight-conscious food.

  • Shop with a list. Start by planning your meals for the week. Go through your pantry, fridge and freezer to see what you have on hand and what’s missing. And then, rather than trying to remember everything you need, make a shopping list. Bring the list with you to the grocery store and stick to it.
  • Shop when you are full. Grocery shopping when you are hungry is a sure fire way to stray from your list. You are more likely to fill your cart with high-calorie foods (not on your list) when you shop on an empty stomach. And then, of course, you end up eating those foods.
  • Shop weekly. Regular grocery shopping will minimize unplanned stops at convenience food stores and fast food restaurants during the week. Too many of these unplanned pit stops can end up costing you a lot of unnecessary calories and unwanted pounds.
  • Shop the perimeter. Fresh whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, meat and seafood, and dairy products are generally located around the outer aisles of the store. This is where you want to be spending most of your time. Foods located in the perimeter aisles are generally healthier than the ready-to-eat foods found in the middle aisles.

Whether you love it or hate it, grocery shopping can help you accomplish your weight loss goals. It’s definitely a habit worth getting into.

Now, I’d love to hear from you.
